Regarding the Mounds Elementary School Fire:
David Gould, our delegate at Whitney, came up
with the idea of doing a “registry” for the teachers.
(There are 17 elementary teachers at Mounds, whose classrooms
were completely destroyed.) Helen Mills from Sequoyah suggested
that faculties could have “showers,” giving both
new items and items from their own classrooms which they don’t
use. Sandy Schaeffer of The Apple Tree (Sandy is a Byrd/Grissom
parent) said The Apple Tree would be happy to do a “registry”
for the Mounds teachers. We’re in the process of working
out the details with the Mounds Elementary principal, so we’ll
let you know when that is in place. In the meantime, TCTA will
still accept donations of basic school supplies and cash (which
will be used to purchase gift certificates for The Apple Tree).
These buildings are doing projects of their own:
Sequoyah – “Classroom Shower”
Salk – Library Book Drive
Eisenhower – Student UN is doing a school-wide campaign
to collect school supplies.
If your school has a special project for gathering supplies,
let us know and we’ll post it here on the website!
SPECIAL NOTE:
Thanks to Carnegie for being the first building to turn in Mounds
Fire Donations!
